Locman Manages To Combine An Aviator Watch And A Dive Watch With the Marina Militare Automatic: Fashionable Watch Releases Locman Manages To Combine An Aviator Watch And A Dive Watch With the Marina Militare Automatic: Fashionable Watch Releases The watch face is what is most important here. They literally combine the classic aviator watch look with diving watches. Though I can't really be sure where the double sided seconds hand came from. These always look cool, but they are probably just a bit distracting. The style of the numerals (especially the hours on the inside with a smaller concentric ring) is all aviator watch. The hour hand follows this arc and is also an aviator style hours hand. The minutes hand could go either way, and while it doesn't mesh perfectly with the look of the hours hand, it still looks appropriate to me. Even though there is some heavy use of text and images on the watch dial, it is still pretty legible, so that is good.

Here are some early images of the upcoming Tissot Sea-Touch, also known as the Tissot Atlan-T. No matter the name, it will be the next version of the very popular T-Touch line of tactile operation watches from Swatch Group's own Tissot brand. In 2000 when the T-Touch line up came out  I was instantly in love with the line. The techie good looks reminded me of a Swiss G-Shock style timepiece. What is so cool about the watch is the touch screen interface. You activate the touch receptive sapphire crystal and then tap the area's function you wish. The readout is a combination of analog hands and a small LCD screen. I never got one of the original Tissot T-Touch watches, or the Navigator, or the Trekking, but I did eventually get a Tissot T-Touch Expert, which is their latest and greatest model  with an updated movement that has more functionality and a slightly larger screen. Look for a detailed Tissot T-Touch Expert watch review on aBlogtoRead.com soon.

Marvin watches are sadly not yet available in the US, but I am sure they will be eventually. If you are in Europe or parts of Asia, you should certainly find one and pick it up, given their haute looks and value pricing.

Designer Rudy Sachs apparently always wanted to make this watch, and found Fortis to be an able and willing partner. Why Fortis? For good reason actually. Maybe of the brands loyalists are math fanatics or work in computation intensive areas. Programmers, engineers, pilots, etc... These people can afford the 00 - 00 range watches, and appreciate their handsome, no nonsense approach. Fortis figured that with a limited edition of just 999 IQ watches, it was worth testing out. And the watch is being well accepted by certain audiences. Personally, the watch is not for me, but I give it two thumbs up for character. And in some circles sales have been very impressive.

Being a long and thin watch, the Graham Oxford and Chrono Sprint watches are 25-30mm wide and 46.5mm long. Even though they have a thick curved sapphire crystal, the watches are only 10mm thick. Eight screws hold the back of the watches in place, and most versions came with an alligator strap.

Lets get a few things straight, the watch industry is mostly the luxury industry. Meaning that the items are mostly expensive and well made. The fake watch industry is the complete opposite, as the items are typically cheap and ill-made. Are these two really serving the same market? The bottom line is that there is no real proof that the fake watch industry really hurts the luxury watch industry. The same people who are buying fakes watches are not the people who can even afford the real ones. Thus, you are really not taking away from the luxury market. If anything, fake watches only enhance the desire for the real, quality authentic watches that faces cannot truly replicate. And if the fakes can replicate them easily, then they aren't luxury watches worth their high price.

One thing that isn't obvious if you've never played with this watch is how the functions "come to life." Press your finger on the compass portion of the face, and the hands reorient themselves to form a pointer, with the longer end (minute hand) pointing north. The LCD panel then displays the degrees (0-360). You don't get to see the time while in this mode, but you get a fully functional electronic compass on your wrist. I imagine that Les Stroud uses this a lot, though he is less inclined to admit it. I know I would use it instead of relying on the sun for direction. To place the watch back in the default time telling mode, you just put your finger on the function again to return to the standard watch mode.

Another Modern Classic From Bell & Ross: The Geneva 126 Chronograph Watch

Another Modern Classic From Bell & Ross: The Geneva 126 Chronograph Watch

The majority of models have quartz movements. Honestly, I don't really have a problem with this. These are very nice work horse models. Get too fancy with mechanical movements, and they might suffer from not being "Republican enough." Prices are fair, from about 0 - 0 depending on the style and metal selected. There is actually an automatic version available as a Limited Edition which is about ,200. Honestly, I would probably stick with the quartz version because they are a nice value, and more importantly, the Swiss Army Dive Master 500m Automatic Limited Edition models have a different face which are not as nice as those on the quartz model.

Well, tidal watches have been around for a while, but the Lodown from Nixon is a particularly good one. It had 15 years of tidal information pre-programmed for 200 cities. The watches also have a full calendar, dual times, alarm stopwatch, countdown timer, and of course light. The best part is that all of these features, literally are accessible at "a glance." The sizable LCD screen features a daily tide chart where you are. You can easily tell what the day's tides are going to be like, and what the best time to hit the waves are. For novice surfers, that is usually at low tide, unless they are a particularly strong swimmer.

The watch dial is done in a very turn of the century traditional sense. The beautiful number font is totally old-world classic formality, and really nicely done in this context. The blued steel hands with little circles shout high-end formal watches from when watches first become available. Germans have a bit of a think for looking to the past, and these watches, while thoroughly antique in look, and totally modern in every other way.

First is the perennial favorite of the designer upper class. Designer by Chanel, for Chanel is the J12. One of the most popular ceramic watches around, the J12 made it OK for men to wear white watches. Coming in a variety of styles, sizes, and with or without diamonds, the J12 is a diverse watch which never succumbed to being glitzed garbage. Most versions feature well made ETA automatic movement with special editions fitted with tourbillons, and of course there is also the Audemars Piguet Chanel J12. Both the white and black versions of this ceramic gem are sized for men, although there are female versions available. Prices range from about ,000 - ,000 for most models with top range versions going for much higher.

The CGK203 watch is probably their most popular watch. It combines a classic look that they perfected in the late 1990s and kept into production until the early 2000s. Only 1100 CGK203 watches were ever made, so you can imagine that aren't available very often. This particular model features the gold plated movement, which is the most desirable in my opinion, and is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.

The watch is placed on a brown alligator strap that matches the brown dial color of tobacco leaves. Being a limited edition of only 99 pieces, having a sophisticated movement, and a rose/pink gold case, you'd expect a very high price for this watch. Retail was about ,000, which while not cheap, is reasonable given all the above factors. There are a few of these still available around the watchosphere. Check them out.

The Casio Riseman GW-9200 is a bit tricky to review, mostly because Christian already wrote a pretty complete post about it already. It's also a bit of a hybrid watch, something of a merger between the worlds of the G-Shock and Pathfinder lines. I'll dive into feature lists after the break, but a short summary is this: Metric units only, and no compass.

Here is a piece of innovative watch technology and integration from a brand you probably haven't heard of. That is OK, because Erwin Sattler does not tend to make wrist watches. As a segue into dabbling in this market, they built a steampunk looking device that is very beautiful and functional combining a watch, watch winder, and clock. All in an expensive looking (and costing) crystal and leather case (the crystal case can be lifted electronically). The various elements of the Trilogie set can be traced to Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
