There is no one solution to this problem, but an excellent one is having a good infrastructure in place to deal with customer relations before operations begin in full force. This will allow you to more or less automate many processes (such as sending e-mails), and in crease efficiency and organization; you don't want too much falling through the cracks. Never try to reinvent the wheel, but go with a commercial CRM (customer relationship management) solution. There are at least two big players in this market, and many smaller ones. You will have to balance the sophistication of the product, with the price, and ease of implementation when making a decision.

Overall, I have no doubt that purchasing a watch from Portero.com would result in a smooth transaction (though I have not done so yet), but is it worth the very high premium? No, I don't think it is. These factors make eBay all the more attractive to me as a location to purchase watches (among other things) as it a true auction site (unlike Portero), I've engaged in hundreds of smooth transactions, and eBay's available watch listings at any time is extensive. eBay here I come.
Size wise the original and new LIP are somewhat different. To envelop the Valjoux 7734 movement, the original had to be a bit larger at 47x40mm. The new LIP Mach 2000 Chronograph X is more comfortably sized at 42x40mm. The case really hugs your wrist in a pleasant manner, and the pushers are easy to operate while the watch is worn. The asymmetric quality of the watch in no way impedes how easy it is to wear the watch, and at times seems to be a benefit as it simply makes sense given the orientation. Roger Tallon was able to make a serious watch that was meant to be asymmetrical, rather than just play around with the asymmetric theme.
Inside are all Swiss automatic movements. The configuration looks like a Valjoux 7750, but the size of the watches would suggest use of the new ETA Valgranges movement which offers the same features as the Valjoux 7750, but is larger. Speaking of chronographs, you'll notice the large screw cap on the crown connected via a little clasp to the bottom side of the watch. This is a bit of a vestigial element on the watch, but is meant to assist with water resistance. It used to be that one method of ensuring a water-tight case was to seal in the crown. Since then, other effective means have come out, like crowns that themselves screw in, or tighter gaskets that don't allow water in at high pressures. If you want to adjust the crown on this watch, you unscrew the cap, it dangles on the little hinge so that it does not get lost, and a smaller crown is revealed underneath.
Authorized dealers themselves are not to blame. For the most part, they have their hands tied because of agreements with distributors and watch companies. It is hard to determine the major reason that watch companies are not willing to focus online with greater attention, but I would say that is has to do with the traditional watch distribution channel.Read more ›
Apple is up to it again. Their newest war on the consumer; Engadget on Apple's newest folly. It appears as though Apple is not only testing the limits of consumer acceptance, but also the law. Apple has made a decision, in their infinite wisdom, to only allow for credit card or check purchases of iPhones, and limit customers to two. What this means is that if you want to buy an iPhone, you cannot use cash, and good luck trying to buy more than two. It is unclear how they are going to enforce this, or how they are going to stop people from coming in again and again to buy more (to get over the 2 limit), but they are going to try. Getting around the policy is not the issue. The issue regards attempted enforcement and the mere initiation of the policy.

Two new wearable pieces of functional art on available from Olga, and really show a new level of refinement in her style. I can attest that the craftsmanship of her work is very good. She makes very solid and well put together pieces. These are no flimsy show pieces, but completely functional and rugged.Read more ›

Olga recently learned about the steampunk style by name. It seemed like a logical extension of her existing work. This unique style seemed to adapt to her. Growing up in Ukraine likely allowed Olga to see many remnants of machines old and new in various states of disrepair. As an arm of the old Soviet Union, Ukraine had its share of communist era relics. Pieces of industrialization. Remnants of the failed good intentions and ill execution of communist socialism. Olga remarks on how she finds much of her inspiration and parts at flea markets, swap meets, and other collections of discarded treasure. By all mechanical standards, nothing Olga works with is modern, and she likes it that way. There is art and beauty in the components of progress. Old pipes, watch gears, pieces of wood, and furniture fittings. Bolts, buttons, screws, and nails. These are the foundational elements that make up the otherwise organic matter civilization has taken for granted the last 100 years or so.

I feel the need to talk about this event, even though I attended it in June (of 2007). I read WatchTime magazine and learned about a watch dinner (Inside Basel World) that was to be a recap of the events and news of Basel World 2007. For those of you who don't know, Basel World is the big watch trade show of the year held in Switzerland. The opportunity to attend an event like this in San Francisco was too appealing. with dinner and a "goody bag?" Yea, I could not resist. It was being held about a month before I took the bar exam, at which point I would have done just about anything to get my mind off studying.
The decision of what watch you are buying should not be entirely based on the manner of production, but you should at least have that piece of knowledge. If anything, it will be one more item of conversation to bring to the watch enthusiast table.
The face of a watch, like a person, often tells you quite a bit about what they are. Sometimes they're subtle and restrained, and sometimes their place in the world is writ large for all to see. The Casio Pathfinder, model number PAW1500T-7V is one of those "this is who I am, got a problem with that?" sorts of watches. After wearing it for a few weeks, I think of it as the go-to watch for the outdoors, especially if things are going to be tough: river rafting, long hiking trips, extreme sports and the like. It's probably the most capable and versatile watch I've yet seen. [Click For Rest Of Article]
