Orient's signature complication is the power reserve indicator, here seen at twelve o'clock. They are not common, making it a nice differentiator for the brand. It indicates in hours, the amount of power in the mainspring. Here you can see about 30 hours of running remains. The movement should have a maximum power reserve of about 42 hours. With its bidirectional winding, about an hour per day of active wear (walking and such) will keep it topped off, but it's a nice bit of interaction with the mechanics. I quite enjoy watching it climb while I handwind, reminiscent of feeding an electronic Tamigotchi pet.

The new Tissot T-Touch model for 2012 is the T-Touch Classic. Tissot takes the high-tech appeal of the T-Touch and dresses it in a more... well, dressy skin. Last year Tissot released the Racing-Touch (discussed here), which was a more entry level version of the popular T-Touch watch.  At a similar price, the T-Touch Classic uses the same movement but offers a much more timeless look.

The chronograph function in the Type XXII 388ST doesn't use any of the subsidiary dials. Instead, it uses two centrally placed hands for the seconds and minutes. The chronograph seconds hand moves around the entire dial each 30 seconds. Yes, it can get confusing. The minute hand "steps" two times each minute. Meaning there is a halfway position so that you know if the chronograph seconds hand is measuring the first or second half of that corresponding minute. Using the hash marks on the periphery of the dial, you can determine the 1/10 of a second fractional reading.

A fair question to ask is whether each private product contains the same security features as those granted to the military and government. The answer is more or less yes, but Brown Safe can't really discuss it. Video and details on the construction of their products can theoretically compromise security. It is an ironic double-edged sword for a product maker. That being; if they want to provide the most secure product possible, they must keep its details private. Having said that, Brown Safe is more than  open about what their safes are made out of, and the type of security to expect.

The same goes for women. I don't care if you are the type of woman who only likes to wear elegant formal watches on dainty bracelets, you can pull off a feminine Casio Baby-G as well. I didn't always believe that, until I saw women of all looks and ages wearing fun sporty Baby-G watches and looking good in the process. You don't need to like every model, but there should be at least a few good ones out there for you.

The Cambiano watch case is 45mm wide in steel. There are different finishes from bead-blasted to polished. The inner case barrel makes it look like a can. A can containing a really fancy set of gears. It is a cool design being modern and minimalistic. The dial design however is not very minimalistic - and that isn't bad. At first I was worried that it might prove controversial. Though when I started to show the watch off to people they liked it a lot. I suppose the combo of metal finishes, skeletonized openings, and traditional watch design paid off well. For all the decorative value it has, Pininfarina really made sure to maintain a healthy amount of legibility and utility. For me that is the strongest aspect of the dial. The hands are the right length and the chronograph subdials are totally straight forward. The only whimsical element is the "steering wheel" style subsidiary seconds hand. Protecting the dial is a very high quality AR coated sapphire crystal. You know it is a good crystal when it almost disappears and you feel as though you can put your finger right on the dial.

Inside this Grande Reverso Duoface is a Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 986 manually wound movement. All features are controlled via the crown and it has a power reserve of about 48 hours. It is a slick movement and all I could have asked for in addition to the existing features would be a power reserve indicator. For me, I really like it when manually wound movements have those. Price for this excellent Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Duoface watch is ,300 in 18k rose gold and about ,200 in steel. It is a classic, and an easy decision to own.

The look and feel of the Gyrotourbillon is both exemplary of an era but also timeless. The Reverso style case is pretty much always in style and the movement is a testament to the tasteful side of horological decadence. It is functional and symmetrical while also being over-the-top. What goes into the movement just to make them work is a story unto itself.

The Romain Jerome Space Invaders watches are part of the Moon Invader collection, which itself was an extension of the Moon Dust DNA collection. The Moon Invader watch range has a case that resembles a moon lander of sorts, and uses some metal taken from Apollo XI spare parts. On the back of the watch is a special coin-style emblem that has a moon surface motif. Whether it has meaning on the watch is not relevant, it does seem to help complete the package.

Unlike most brands, UTS makes their own cases. Spinner is a mechanical engineer, and personally I have to say that watch-obsessed engineers make the most interesting watches. Think UTS, Damasko, ochs und junior, and probably others. You don't have to be a mechanical engineer, but it seems to help.

Having previously owned a Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAN2110 300m diver, I rather like this new model with its more subtle dial design, smaller case and the simple fact that its sapphire crystal is not adorned with a clops magnifier. The 300m WAN2110 is thin, simple and nicely made, essentially everything that a dress-diver buyer is looking for. What concerns me is the thought of having a Tag Heuer dress diver, but no sportier older brother. The WAN 300m makes more sense when you know, in the back of your mind, that while you chose the dressy option, the same company makes a tougher and more aggressive 500m model like 2009's WAJ series. I am quite sure that the new WAK is a serious diver, what with its 500m water resistance and SMP-like HeV manual release at 10 o'clock on the case side, but the "last gen" 300m and 500m Aquaracers complimented each other nicely. Those used to the previous generation models are encouraged to "try before they buy" as the new Aquaracers are more a re-think than evolution on the existing collection.

The point of this watch is either an idea you'll immediately love or dismiss. For tactical and utility purposes, this MTM Falcon watch has a dial which turns into a light. It started with the MTM Hawk collection and evolved here in the Falcon range. These are special proprietary designs and movements which offer the wearer a serious light on the wrist. Whether you are flagging down squad mates or trying to see your keys in the dark, this is a useful piece of tech that just misses being nerdy.

The Supermarine 500 remains my favorite Bremont watch to-date. You can find a full review of the Bremont Supermarine here. I quite love that watch and the Supermarine 2000 will not really be all that different. The idea for the 2000 is to be a larger, more durable piece. These pictures are pre-renders of the final watch. I have also personally checked out a prototype of the 2000, and confirm it is everything I love about the Supermarine 500, plus about "1500."

Citizen discussed little in terms of how the Eco-Drive Nova watch actually works. Set on display with accompanying videos, they instead preferred to show off the concept and let us guess for ourselves. The watch itself comes in black or white with a large dial, integrated strap, and large domed sapphire crystal over the face. An impressively sized crown is included to remind you that it is indeed a timepiece.

We have now entered the world of designer watch winders. Did you ever think that your next watch winder would be inspired by a chair? Or perhaps high heels? Well these two are. German safe and watch winder maker Dottling has built a follow-up model to their famed Colosimo watch winder safe. I originally wrote about the Colosimo here.
